A Very Simple Way to Increase Your Athletic
Endurance
You have probably heard
of athletes who "load up" on carbohydrates
to increase their performance and endurance
before an event. Well, athletes in the know
are now loading up on a mixture of carbs
and protein.
In a double-blind study published in Medicine
& Science in Sports & Exercise,
subjects who drank a sports drink that combined
carbohydrates and protein rode a bicycle
29 percent longer than those who drank a
carbohydrate-only beverage. The results
of the same subjects on a second ride were
even better: Those who drank the carbohydrate-and-protein
beverage rode 40 percent longer. In addition,
their post-exercise indicators of muscle
damage were 83 percent lower.
