A Naturally Effective Way to Strengthen
a Broken Heart
The National Institutes
of Health (NIH) recently sponsored
a two-day seminar entitled "Carnitine:
The Science Behind a Conditionally Essential
Nutrient." These are the highlights:
• For those who had suffered from
a heart attack, acetyl-L- carnitine (2-3
g/day over 4-8 weeks) resulted in a reduction
in the amount of damage to the heart muscle.
• Acetyl-L- carnitine reduced the
incidence of angina and cardiac arrhythmias
as well as the need for anti-angina and
anti-arrhythmic medications.
• Acetyl-L- carnitine (2g/ day for
6 months) increased exercise capacity among
the elderly and patients with angina.
L-carnitine is a safe and beneficial supplement
that is widely available. The best sources
are naturally raised meat and organic dairy
products.
