Coaching is frequently
mistaken for other forms of personal support
like counseling, therapy, mentoring or consulting.
Coaching is similar in some ways to each
of these other forms of support in that
individuals like you come to a coach with
something they want to work on. However
in coaching the tools and methodologies
used are very different.
Where counseling and therapy involve analysis
of past events, coaching is focused on the
present and the future. Coaches work with
individual people to design an action plan
and path forward that will help them meet
their specific goals and objectives.
Coaches work with their clients to ensure
they have the necessary resources, tools
and skills to achieve whatever they are
aiming for. By providing an umbrella of
support, encouragement and motivation, individuals
are able to obtain success more quickly.
People hire coaches for a variety of reasons.
Frequently those reasons are related to
their work or professional life such as:
- climbing the career ladder
- choosing a new job or vocation
- or achieving a healthy work-life balance
On other occasions the reasons deal more
with their personal life where clients want
to focus on:
- maintaining their health
- increasing their fitness and wellbeing
- or improving their relationships with
family and friends
No matter what the reason, coaching provides
the crucial link between merely wanting
something and actually achieving it.
